:::Groan::: … seriously… etiquette? Wait a sec, isn’t this supposed to be about spiritual and Jesus stuff only? If not, shouldn’t you be telling us about how to wrestle bears and clean guns?
Why Does Etiquette Matter?
Etiquette is usually seen as contrived and presumptuous by the “average” man. It feels that way for me often. Unfortunately, I am too average in this regard. I have definitely done a poor job of this with my wife, and am changing this… especially as our family grows and our children mature.
You will spend a lot of time eating in your life. Dining etiquette provides a great opportunity to show honor and respect to others. As Christian men, we want to continually cultivate hearts that value and display honor. Professionally, etiquette can directly impact winning or losing a job or customer. However, MUCH more importantly:
- We want our wives to feel special and cherished. We have the opportunity to display the deep honoring love of Christ to them.
- We want our young men to honor their moms and other women. They learn from our actions.
- We want our daughters experience their dads and brothers honoring their moms and themselves. They learn from our actions.
